Yachts and ferries to the Greek islands, expensive condominiums and restaurants on the oceanfront, jewellery and souvenir shops everywhere. We find our usual cheap little pension, get ferry and bike hire info and spend most of our last lira before we leave the country on ferry tickets to Rhodes, hiring a bike for the next day, groceries to take to Greece and dinner out.

The next day we pick up the bike and spend almost all day riding the Bozburun Peninsula, 168km of coastline and fishing towns. Go to http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&hl=en&lr=&q=bozburun+peninsula to see what it looks like. There are some towns with huge seaside mansions shut up for the winter. Beck and I imagine Michael Douglas owns one and flies here in the summer. Riding through villages where every house is a boat building and repair operation, yachts lining the street like cars. We stop for a picnic lumch on the way back at a little bay looking at where the peninsula we are on, and the one next to it meet. Spectacular scenery and a lovely way to spend our last full day in Turkey. That night we have our last dinner at the only authentic local tavern in town, where all the people who own the tourist shops eat and spend our last lira at the supermarket and on turkish sweets, keeping what we need for the exit tax the next day.

Turkey index

The Waynes World Home page

PHOTOS

For REAL adventure, try a RedBalloon Day
